Unlike other jobs, physical appearance is important in the case of acting. So, you should give your name and contact details first followed by your age, height, weight, eye colour, hair colour, and other features.

This will let the director know upfront whether he or she can cast you in the movie or play.

Acting credits

You should write down your experience as an actor. You should mention the dramas, plays, and movies you have done so far. Even if you have acted on stage in a school play, you should mention that.

If possible, write specifically about characters you have played similar to the role you are applying for.

Education and training

Though many actors are born with the outstanding ability to act, you still need proper education and training to get polished. The competition is huge here and training can set you apart from the rest.

So, if you have gone to any acting school, you should mention that. You should also mention any acting workshops you have participated in.

Headshots

This is a very crucial part of an actor’s portfolio. You should take pictures of just your head and neck. You should hire a professional photographer to take your picture as he or she will know how to highlight your best features.

Take a couple of headshots, varying the facial expression on each. It is a good idea to take headshots based on the role you are applying for, for example, if you want to play the role of a cowboy, then wear a cowboy hat and show several manly expressions.

Demo reel

You should create a demo reel of your performance so that the casting directors get an idea about your acting ability. You should hire professional editors to create the demo reel. Choose the best character you have played so far and act. After all, you want to show your best talent to the casting directors to get the role.

If you include these elements in your portfolio, then you will have a better chance of getting the desired role. Your aim should be to impress the casting directors with your portfolio.
